ASCA is an Australian charity dedicated to the health and wellbeing of adult survivors of all forms of child abuse and neglect.
By conservative estimates there are more than 2 million adults surviving child abuse in Australia (with real figures est. 4-5 million). More than 8 million Australian community members are directly affected by this tragedy. Yet the needs of adult survivors receive little community or government support.
"Since 1995, ASCA has provided support for adults who experienced childhood trauma and are struggling with its effects in the present, as well as for those who support them. Through its Australia-wide network of survivors, their friends and families as well as the health care professionals who support them, ASCA helps to break down the sense of isolation and alienation that many survivors feel.
In recent years ASCA has been creating new possibilities. With its regular newsletter, 1300 phone support line, advocacy work and extensive workshop program ASCA is making a real difference to the lives of Australian adults surviving child abuse.
ASCA's annual Forget-me-knot Day, a day on which all Australians are called upon to unite in support of adult survivors is held the second Friday in November every year. Activites are held nationally right through the month of November.
For ASCA and adult survivors every day is Forget-me-knot Day. Our Forget-me-knot Appeal is active all year run as we work together to untangle the knot of child abuse."
